Chapter 9

LACEY

I sobered up and drove the car to Brooke's house with Buster, leaving her there to party through the night with Clubber and the Blood Eagles MC. She called me early the following day, telling me that Travis was at the clubhouse, and asked her to give me a call.

"I overheard Roadkill talking to Clubber, Axle, and Bootleg about how he'd roughed up some Dare Devils last night," Brooke said over the phone.

I took a quick shower and brought Buster with me, driving her car back to the clubhouse. I parked in front to see Travis's bike beside the others. I took a deep breath and exhaled, then climbed out of the car. Buster jumped out after me, running on his little legs into the clubhouse. Travis stood beside the bar talking to Clubber, Axle, and Bootleg while Brooke sat on a barstool looking at her smartphone.

I swallowed, holding back tears when I entered, and Travis's eyes met mine. My stomach fluttered just at the sight of him. I was expecting him to cuss me out for leaving the way I did, but instead, he walked over and pulled me into his arms. I looked over at Axle as he stood with Clubber and Bootleg, starring daggers right at Travis's back.

Travis placed his big hands on my cheeks and leaned in to kiss me. His tongue slid into my mouth, making my toes curl while I wrapped my arms around his broad shoulders.

I broke away first. "I'm staying, Travis. I can't go back."

"I know, and that's why I'm here. I'm a Nomad now." He said, then turned around to show me the bottom rocker on his cut. "There's a lot of shit about my past that I've not told anyone, not even my Royal Bastard brothers, but I'm hoping I can share them with you someday."

Tears began to fall, and Travis swiped one away from my cheek with his calloused thumb. "Did you think I was going to let you walk out of my life, Lacey?"

I sniffled. "I've changed Travis. I'm not the same girl you met two years ago."

"That's true. You're not the same girl. You're a beautiful woman with a heart of gold. I was a zombie, a monster, and didn't give a shit about anyone except my club. There's good in you. Those Bloody Aces did not change who you are, Lacey, and they're all dead and gone forever. I can't just let you go cause you're the best thing that's ever happened to me."

The way Travis looked into my eyes at that moment made my heart melt. There was no anger or disappointment in his eyes, only this look of devotion. Or maybe it was love?

I turned to look over at his bike parked next to Clubber's and took his hand. "Take me for a ride, Travis."

"It's not safe right now. I had a run-in with some of those Dare Devils last night over at the Salty Clam."

"Did you kill them?"

He chuckled, "I wanted to, but no.
